Teaching at a Toddler’s Pace

Toddlers are developing quicker than nearly every other age group and are rapidly picking up a great deal of knowledge about the world around them. They are all focused on speed: simultaneously learning to sprint, sing, and converse. The goal of the Lewis Chatman Academy Toddler Program is to maximize each of their quick developmental milestones.

Our toddler program has three levels:
Early Toddlers: ages 13 months to 17 months
Toddlers: ages 18 months to 29 months
Late Toddlers/ Early Preschool: ages 30 months to 36 months.

The toddler curriculum at Lewis Chatman Academy is made to acknowledge each child’s growth as their unique personality continues to emerge. The curriculum of Lewis Chatman Academy is designed to satisfy a child’s insatiable curiosity and need for knowledge.

Learning Environment: Every day in our light-filled, energetic classrooms is packed with carefully planned activities to support the children’s physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs. Our highly experienced teachers are able to purposefully construct classes that advance children’s developmental milestones through ongoing observation and assessment. These encounters cultivate camaraderie, kindness, and self-worth.

About Our Curriculum: Our primary lesson planning comes TLCA and Creative curriculum. Our team of skilled and imaginative toddler instructors uses additional exercises according to each child’s needs as well as the needs of the group.

The children have extensive exposure to art, music, literature, movement activities, concept reinforcement, and experiences in nature. Each day, we work on building relationships, and we teach skills to promote social growth.

The kids’ toileting, feeding, and clothing abilities are among the things the teachers help them with. We keep in regular contact with parents to make sure our strategy aligns with the routines kids encounter at home.

Our curriculum specifically takes into account the rapid growth and development of toddlers by addressing their readiness cues; the curriculum for older toddlers is geared toward getting them ready for preschool and beyond. When kids show curiosity or indications of developing abilities, we can motivate them to go on to the next task.

Toddler classrooms feature center-based learning designed to build on the skills each child acquires at various developmental stages. Learning areas are equipped with fun and age-appropriate puzzles, manipulatives, games, and toys to encourage your child’s development of…

Creative Arts & Music: Group time and transitions are enhanced with music, movement, and repetition. Your child’s imagination is used to explore textures, designs, and other creative arts!

Physical & Well-Being: Through walking and running, toddlers gain control over small and large muscles, refine their movements, and carve out their unique paths.

Language & Literacy: Muscle control and cognitive advancements lead to fascinating conversations, which we cherish and encourage as toddlers express their thoughts and needs.

Mathematics & Science: Teachers introduce counting, patterning, and matching colors and shapes, laying an early foundation for science and math..

Social & Emotional Well-Being: Independence shines as toddlers choose friends and take pleasure in pleasing adults. Positive reinforcement encourages good behavior and creates enjoyable learning experiences.

Cognitive Skills: Cognitive progression in toddlers results in fewer “trial and error” actions and more deliberate activities, along with a longer attention span and preferences for particular people, places, and things.
